Houston and Miller Halls are two undergraduate residence halls built in 1959-1961 that total 114,950 sf, which includes the Miller basement that is currently used as office space for various departments. Both buildings will undergo major renovations. Miller will start in May and will be fully turned over in December 2018 Houston will be complete Spring 2019.
The two buildings will be renovated to include the following improvements:
New elevators, accessible common spaces, and rest rooms through the building
Address all deferred maintenance items
Safety and building code upgrades
Improvements to student life (e.g., common areas, event space, new furniture)
Improved landscape around the buildings and conversion of the roads in front of the buildings into pedestrian paths
Sustainable/energy saving improvements
Additional safety and security items
Construction Update – Week of August 9, 2018
Various mechanical, electrical and plumbing activities are taking place throughout the interior.
Stairs will begin to be infilled and have shoring installed.
Water work and plumbing inspections will occur.
Landscaping, grading and public way work continues around the site.
Finishing work such as painting, flooring and ceiling installations will continue.
Window work will continue.
Roof and façade activities will take place daily. Steel will also be installed.
