Joan Schuman is a junior at Northeastern University majoring in Business Administration concentrating in Supply Chain Management and Marketing with a minor in Sustainable Business Practices. She is passionate about sustainability, especially food waste, and is excited about the opportunity to learn more about sustainability as a whole at Tufts this spring. Joan lives in Brookline and spends her free time outside or on campus either running our chapter for Net Impact or at the Catholic Center.
Zero Waste Events Manager
Tushar Saxena is a graduate student at Tufts school of engineering. After working in the education sector in India, Tushar joined Tufts and is currently pursuing Engineering management. At OOS, he currently works as a zero waste event manager and Data Management Intern. Tushar is interested in exploring the role of technology in environmentally sustainable development. When not studying or working at OOS, he enjoys outdoor activities such as biking, hiking and exploring the city. On campus, you can find him discussing his concerns about his first Boston winter and learning the imperial system.
Education and Verification Intern
Josh is a junior at Tufts majoring in Middle Eastern Studies and Environmental Studies, with a possible minor in Linguistics. Josh is interested in how climate change disparately affects communities and how other social factors compound issues of environmental justice. Josh studies Arabic at Tufts as part of the MES Major, and spent the Summer of 2017 in Jordan conducting research on Sea Grass meadows off the Gulf of Aqaba. After graduation, Josh hopes to live in Beirut and work at an environmental NGO as well as work with Syrian Refugee populations. Josh is very excited about the creation of the Education intern position and looks forward to working with students and staff to create a more sustainable Tufts.
Waste Reduction Intern
Emily Steele is a senior majoring in Engineering Psychology and Environmental Studies. She is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, where she enjoys eating spicy food, watching football, and being outside. Here at Tufts, she has been able to pursue her passions for sustainable design and learning about how people interact with spaces around them. For fun, she enjoys curling up with a good book, cooking with friends, and adventuring around Boston. As the Waste Reduction Intern, Emily hopes to identify ways in which we can all reduce our waste on campus.
Specialty Recycling Intern
Mats is a sophomore majoring in Biology on the Pre-Vet track. Mats is from Seattle, Washington, but loves New England despite its wild weather! He is also a member of the Varsity Men’s Rowing team here at Tufts. In his free time, he can be found reading, cooking, hiking, biking or playing with his dogs! He is a big fan of the outdoors, from backyards to national parks! It is incredible for him to see how helping people to make small decisions day-by-day can turn into massive progress towards living more sustainably!
