Construction Update
July 12, 2018

Good Afternoon,

In addition to updating the Tufts Construction website with various project updates, we’ll be sending periodic updates with major or public way impacts around campus. These activities may require street or sidewalk closures and signage will be posted to help direct pedestrians and vehicles in the area.

Please see below for some project highlights over the next few weeks –

Haskell Hall
Façade and exterior window repairs will continue. Windows and repointing work will be complete in July.
There are multiple lifts on site and heavy construction activity, which will generate noise throughout the day.
Work for the new Domestic Hot Water Heat Exchangers will begin the week of July 16th.

Miller and Houston Halls
A power shutdown is scheduled for July 21st and is expected to only impact Miller Hall.
Demolition activities, landscaping, grading and public way work continues around the site.
Various mechanical, electrical and plumbing activities are taking place throughout the interior.

Carmichael
Electrical Shutdowns
This work is to execute urgently needed repairs to electrical connections feeding Wren and Carmichael.
July 16th – Electrical Shutdown to Wren, Houston, Blakeley and Mugar 5am – 6AM. Power will be shut down in order to connect Wren to a temporary generator so that necessary repairs can be made to the damaged ductbank. Houston is impacted (during this hour) because it is on the same electrical vault.
July 19th – Electrical Shutdown to Wren, Houston, Blakeley and Mugar 5am – 6AM Power will be shutdown to take Wren off the temporary generator. Houston again is impacted because it is feed from the same electrical vault.
Additional excavation will be necessary in July to complete installation of a new power service to the building.
Electronic door lock installations will continue.
Sprinkler head adjustments are scheduled for the week of July 16th.

Chilled Water
The Chilled Water line has been installed through Phase 2, just beyond Ballou Hall. Work continues between Barnum and West Halls, and will cross Packard Ave soon, to get to Olin and Cabot. There will be detours around the excavation on Packard Ave. Signage will be posted to assist with vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The road will be plated and open to traffic overnight.

Stormwater Improvement Project – Phase 2
The installation of the drain line down Halligan Drive is underway and expected to be complete by mid-July.
The overall project is scheduled to be complete by late August / early September.

Ballou Hall
The front entry accessibility project is expected to be complete July 13th.

Stratton Hall
The basement slab was removed, drainage and waterproofing installed, and slab poured.
Framing is well underway in the basement with rough mechanical, electrical and plumbing activities ongoing.
Framing, drywall and taping is ongoing.
Painting has begun working from the top floors down.
New ceiling grid installation is in progress.
Double shifts continue for certain trades on site.

Bed Optimization – Phase 2
Harleston – Demolition and landscaping work continues. Plumbing & Electrical inspections are scheduled for the near future. Floor installations are ongoing.
Bush – Remaining scope includes electrical, flooring, and painting.
Hodgdon – Painting and electrical activities are in progress.
Hill – Painting is ongoing throughout the building.
32 Dearborn – New rated ceilings have been installed and framing is ongoing.

Fletcher Bathrooms
Ginn Library bathrooms have been completed and will be ready to open week of July 16th.
Construction on Murrow bathroom has begun and is expected to be completed by the end of July/beginning of August.
Design for 6 bathrooms in Hall of Flags and Mugar Hall will be completed by mid-July. Construction is expected to occur during the summer and winter break of 2018-2019.

Metcalf Hall
All lighting circuits have been rewired to correct unforeseen existing conditions
New doors have been installed throughout
Acoustic ceiling grids are being installed
Flooring will begin later this week
Electric locks will begin installation in two weeks.

CoHo
On-site activities include rough electrical for post lights and emergency blue lights.
Rough grading activities are ongoing.
Installation of cast in place concrete stairs will take place.
The granite curb will be reset where it was previously removed for utility connections.
Sidewalk improvements on Bellevue and Fairmount streets will commence.
Exterior building improvements including roof replacements, siding repairs/installations and painting.
