Thanks to a generous gift from the Cummings Foundation, Tufts is excited to announce the development of a new academic building to be located on College Avenue next to the future MBTA station creating a new gateway to the campus. Critical to our growing academic programs, the new Cummings Center will also offer the opportunity to create event spaces on a scale that is competitive with peer universities.
Lights have been added to the steel structure for the safety and security of the construction site. The lights were strategically placed so that they are facing away from the neighborhood.
The crew will continue to pour concrete slabs for each floor of the building. Due to the nature of concrete, workers may be on site beyond normal work hours to ensure that it dries properly. This is essential for the structural integrity of the building. Normal construction hours are Monday through Saturday from 7am to 6pm.
Underground utilities will be connected to the new building. There is also a plan to connect the Cummings Center to the Tufts University Central Energy Plant.
