Thanks to a generous gift from the Cummings Foundation, Tufts is excited to announce the development of a new academic building to be located on College Avenue next to the future MBTA station creating a new gateway to the campus. Critical to our growing academic programs, the new Cummings Center will also offer the opportunity to create event spaces on a scale that is competitive with peer universities.
Steel columns and beams are being erected, as well as steel decking for the floors. Steel is expected to be complete by mid-March.
Boilers are being installed in the Halligan basement and utilities are being placed under the building and Halligan Drive in order to be connected to the new heating and cooling system. New transformer pads for the Cummings building are being designed and poured.
Coordination with the MBTA’s Green Line Extension (GLX) project is ongoing. The GLX is accessing the Cummings site in order to pour foundations for the MBTA’s pedestrian bridge.
Coordination with National Grid is ongoing to relocate an existing gas pipe.
