In November, the Tufts Office of Sustainability and Eco-Reps program hosted a recycling competition between the residence halls of the Medford/Somerville campus. Please join us in congratulating the winner, West Hall! West Hall’s contamination rate decreased by 33% during the competition.
Eco-Reps and the OOS staff conducted audits of the waste produced by residence halls before and after the competition. Halls were then judged on changes of recycling rate (the higher the better), how much recycling was contaminated with non-recyclables (the lower the better), and how much overall waste they produced (the lower the better).
These audits have provided valuable information that will help the recycling team in creating more effective outreach to address the common contaminants found across recycling bins on campus.
